Great coach! Melanie is knowledgeable and motivating in every session. CrossFit can be really challenging, but with her guidance at OpenBox Athletics | Functional Fitness Training, CrossFit, Boot Camp, Small Group Fitness Gym, the workouts become fun and engaging. She pays close attention to my form, adjusts the weights when needed, and always encourages me to push a little further without overdoing it. I can clearly feel my progress week by week - movements that once felt tough are now smoother and more controlled. The energy she creates in the gym makes even the hardest workouts enjoyable, and that keeps me coming back.

I’m new to CF. Technique and consistency is critical for me especially now so this 56yo body doesn’t get injured and stop attending. Not only is OBA super friendly to rookies, they are also super attentive to my newbie needs. Matt came over several times to review my mistakes - and how to correct them. OBA is the BEST.

I don’t take a specific class. I go for open gym. I like the energy, focus, and friendly environment. It is very straight forward, genuine and motivating. Staff is very cordial and attentive, and I like being treated as a capable and responsible adult. I’m very happy I signed up, and look forward to continued development in there.

Trey is an excellent coach. Always so attentive, and ready to help you. He describes the workout in a way that is very easy to understand and takes time to explain each part of it to make sure everyone is in the same page.

Jean is always an amazing coach - she always makes us laugh even at 6:30 on a Monday morning! Beyond that she’s skilled with making any workout easier or harder to match skill level. It’s also good to know she watches your form and technique to make sure you are working the muscles exactly as intended - but be ready for a good sweaty workout!
Matt is always nice and friendly, and he creates a welcoming workout environment for everyone. He explains every detail clearly so that all members can easily understand. Plus, he suggests scaled versions for novice members like me. I highly recommend trying a workout at The Openbox—you’ll love it!

I can’t say enough good things about Olivia’s classes! Her ability to break down exercises and explain them in a way that’s easier to understand makes a huge difference. She’s attentive and gives spot-on form corrections, which is extremely appreciated to keep myself and others less prone to injury. She offers thoughtful, effective modifications for exercises if one is unable to perform the original exercise so you can still get a great workout. Her coaching style is clear, supportive and motivating, and it’s obvious she genuinely cares about helping others perform at their best! An all-around fantastic coach who brings energy, knowledge and professionalism to every class!

Well-led class with good time management, clear instructions, and encouragement provided throughout. It’s difficult in a large class but I think it’s great when coaching can be provided on lifting movements 1-2x when there is a large number of sets (i.e., enough time to watch everyone 1-2x).
Matt always brings his best self to coaching and class. OBA is lucky to have someone like him to support its members and create an inclusive culture at the gym. I always love being in class with Matt.

Great coach, I always get a great workout. Clear instruction and demos, kept us moving, good music. Safety-minded, stepped in when some members had bad form.
Great! There were a lot of people in claas and Matt guided everyone through the workout. He took the time to take us through movement specific instruction practice for the squat clean and also gave us some time to figure out our starting weight and sharing plates. I know I appreciate individual cues as well even during a Fast workout. On the programming...this was. Very challenging day for me but really good. I need to grow in squat endurance and got lots of reps in! I also build confidence for heavy on the day equalling my PR with so many opportunities to build by feel. The squat cleans and row sprint gave me that shaky max effort feeling. I think the 50% percentage weight and 2 min rest were just right for me. With the decreasing reps helped mentally but every last two reps of each set felt really challenging.
Sunday colidr with Alexa is always great! Challenging and up beat!

After a recent surgery, my first week back was nerve-wracking, but Matt made the transition to being active again such a delight. His encouragement and careful attention to pacing helped me rebuild confidence and enjoy the process. Matt is incredibly knowledgeable about both the technical and motivational aspects of CrossFit, making every session challenging yet achievable. His keen eye for form has helped me avoid injuries and make faster progress than I thought possible. I really appreciate and enjoy the classes with Melanie, Matt, both Emilys, and Ben. As an introvert dealing with anxiety, I've found it challenging to maintain consistency, especially when I don't know many people at the gym and have trouble talking to people. However, these five coaches are the ones who have gone out of their way to check in on me and engage with me, which has made a huge difference. Knowing I can take classes with them has been a key motivator and has helped me stay consistent.
