Always a great training session with Thad.
Today I was struggling with 95# on the Hang Clean of the Clean+Jerk+Hang clean complex. I went down to 90#, no problem. Coach came over and said “let’s try this”. He loaded the bar a little differently and said “you got this”. I tried, failed, then was able to get the complex at 95#😁 Coach Thad encourages all his athletes to do the best they can on any given day. Thanks Coach!!!
Honestly after that first day I am hooked. Lots of support from peers and the drive to keep going. When I had questions, you gave nice detailed answers that helped elavate my performance. An example was on my jerk. I was not getting the bar anywhere close but after some thoughtful coach I was able to hit a new pr. I will definitely be coming back and use this as a building block to help both in fitness and sports.
I appreciate the change to captains for stretching and warm ups. It makes things more interesting.
Coaching and programming is amazing. Best thing I ever did for myself 4 years ago was walk in and join Calypso.
My CrossFit class with Thad was a great workout. Everyone was very friendly and positive. Thad was very attentive and available if I needed help.
Thad is an expert in programming, coaching, training, and creating a welcoming, safe, respectful, fun, inspiring and supportive environment. And, I’ll add one of the best aspects of Thad is his integrity—he walks the walk and talks the talk. He does virtually every workout at the gym (even those we know he doesn’t like) as a powerful example and inspiration on how to grow, get better, and remain persistent—even if you don’t like a movement or workout. He is a master in identifying the simple, yet highly effective movements, workouts, and approaches to help you get the most out of the best hour of your day—an hour at Calypso!
Thadd was leading us into the week this morning with some clean and jerks! Also he broke down the difference between a squat and a hinge! The debate will continue!

I have a strained hamstring and was not sure I would be able to complete the WOD yesterday. After chatting with Thad, he provided some alternate movements that didn’t aggravate it & I still felt like I got a great workout in.
I travel a ton for work and drop in to gyms all over. Calypso is the best gym with the best coaches I’ve ever been to. Whenever we get back to Minnesota we make a point of seeing the Calypso family!

Thad really gets the ‘whole person’ aspect of coaching, and is encouraging in the right ways. This week I’ve been a little down with some elbow and knee discomfort, and frankly feeling discouraged and wondering if I’m getting too old to do this work. He listens and offers modifications but by no means offers on off-ramp. The message is always to keep showing up, tune into the type and intensity of the discomfort, adjust accordingly, but KEEP GOING. This is the message that is hard to generate within oneself, and I’ve left the workouts happier than when I arrived. Thad is really good at the technical training, at perceiving slight differences that make a lift work better, and he’s just as skilled at reading the broader message a person might need and delivering it in a respectful and encouraging way. He sets the tone for everyone to feel welcome and provides the personalized feedback to make these workouts accessible to a wide range of fitness levels.
Coach Thad continues to create challenging program for all abilities. His dedication to building progressive overload training ensures our fitness gains. The gym environment continues to be filled with positivity, cohesion, and camaraderie that makes Calypso a special place!
Thad is my coach and he is the best. Today I learned how to do a front squat correctly. Thad instructed me to bring the bar closer to my neck/throat and it really helped. My wrist got relief and could bring my elbows up higher. He always encourages and keeps everyone motivated and having fun!

Coach Thad! Today was a day Id would have probably skipped. I had to attend 5AM insread of 330 PM due to commitments in the afternoon and Ive been dealing with Gout in my ankle. But coach really pushes to just get into gym even on the tough days as hell work with u to scale the workout so u do something positive for both your physical and mental well being.. That really stuck in my head so I made it in, got sweaty with my peers and had a great work out that was scaled to what my dody would allow today.. Thank you for always reinforcing that Coach Thad, that was the main driver for getting up and makeing it in today!
Absolutely fantastic programming. No day is the same, but every workout builds and flows in a familiar way. After 3 years I am still amazed what these daily efforts to attend a class have done for my mental and physical health. Started for the fitness and stayed for the people and personal growth!

As a new member of CrossFit Calypso, I have been so impressed by the community that has been built here. Every single person has been warm and welcoming.
